I think shriekyware will be the key entry in the Wiki. The answer to Doktor Sleepless is Shriekyware. My theory so far is that John Reinhardt is the man in the padded room. He's also been to the jungle, and never left Heavenside. This is because he's shriekied into maybe a half-dozen people around Heavenside, maybe the world. It would have to be super-shrieky, since it would likely include audtio/visual in addition to tactile functions. Therefore, he's subject to continuous feedback from the rest of his plants. (This would be enough to cause a mental breakdown. Talk about information overload.) So, for example, he hasn't slept in the year because his mind has been receiving continuous input from people all the time. Additionally, when he's in the rain forest seeking the ability to "expand his mind" he's actually looking for a way to handle the constant information flow. Since his plants are operating throughout Heavenside, that's why its as if John Reinhardt never left the city. IM and Clatter also become key themes, since in a way, their ability to network a group of friends is really a lower-powered version of the Doktor Sleepless network. --Grim 01:26, 8 September 2007 (PDT)

Considering the back issue discussion of 4th International and Lovecraft, the next question, then, is how do these things relate to the rest of the series?

In the Shadowrun game, which generally is an unoriginal copycat approach to scifi, there is a cult of communists that seek to network the minds of an entire community into a "hive-mind." I assume that there is an original idea for this somewhere in Sci-fi, and that's where WE got this idea (Since I give him the benefit of the doubt). This might serve to link a communist organization to a shrieky-organization.

As for Lovecraft & Cthulhu, the Elder Gods are said to be telepathic and able to communicate to their followers through dreams. Does JR communicate to his plants through dreams? (Does anyone have a better term for his minions than plants?) Additionally, they are said to be omnipotent. Similarly, DS seems to know about just about everything in Heavenside.

In the end, however, the Doktor Sleepless mystery might simply hinge on the "two body problem." The John Reinhard in the cell might be extremely similar (at least vocally, in the opinion of Sing Watson and legally, in the opinion of the police) to the Doktor Sleepless at large. How then is the same person supposedly in two places at once? I have a couple of theories.

1. Catholic Saint: Many are known for bi-location. Knowing WE, fuck no, not the answer. 2. Clone: This is the standard comic book cliche for strange identity problems. I.E. Peter Parker's parents were clones. Superboy was a clone of Superman. Stryfe was a clone of Cable. If this is the answer, it's actually a total cop-out, and fuck you WE. 3. Robot. Doktor Sleepless is a robot copy of John Reinardt, More accurately an ethanol powered robot: "electricity comes from whiskey, its science." 4. Meat Puppet: The Doktor Science Shriekyware is so powerful as to completely control the body of another individual. 5. Dead Meat Puppet: Once somebody is dead, DS can animate the corpse a la Doktor Frakenstein. Thereafter he can control them.

At this date, these are simply some options. We'll see what pans out.--Grim 01:26, 8 September 2007 (PDT)
