The Waldo Sleepless Hypothesis

The Waldo Sleepless Hypothesis is the proposition that Doktor Sleepless is a remote-controlled robot, presumably assembled Spime-style, being operated by John Reinhardt from Cell 23.

The operational interface would likely be a biometric reader system like Biometr, adapted to motion capture and implanted into John Reinhardt. The H-Plates may serve as relay stations for control signals and/or broadcast power. Doktor Sleepless would be an ad-hoc-technology android, probably put together over a long, painful period of time (during Reinhardt/Sleepless's "long time away" from Heavenside) by less sophisticated, less mobile systems that are also controlled by Reinhardt's internal interface.

This is similar to the Virtual Sleepless Hypothesis, but resolves the questions raised by Sleepless's apparent tactile solidity and audibility. It is another variation on the tulpa theme, as something of a technological tulpa, a projection of Reinhardt's thoughts and will into the world through the intermediation of motion capture, wireless communication, and haptic feedback.

A robot Sleepless is consistent with having fingertips that suddenly discharge amounts of electricity suitable for defibrillation, as well as being consistent with the transhumanist themes at work.

The goggles, in the case of a robot Sleepless, would probably be a workaround for a lack of convincing eyes to be had in off-the-street technology.
