Talk:The Point of It All
From doktorsleepless
Your Reflection Ok, I'll bite. I'll buy a batch of Shriekyware sets if anyone gets them to be a safe tech.
Heck, I'll take clatter too if someone can actually develop them.
While I agree that there are elements of 'all this stuff is lying around, why don't you assemble it yourself' to all of this great work there's also a very real sense in which I don't have sufficient expertise to make it, or sufficient starting capital to buy the warehouses full of crap needed to start a revolution. --Confusion 08:26, 30 September 2007 (PDT)

Ellis has certainly said on more than one occasion that he uses his characters as mouthpieces sometimes. There are clearly things that he and Spider agree on. But I think it's a little more complex than that. Ellis isn't talking to us directly. He's talking through a character embedded in a medium, out from behind editors, etc. That's the fun part. The noise is part of the message. The fact that he's a character creates the defamiliarization that allows us to take these words as new. If you just think of them as an extension of the Bad Signal, then I think you're sort of missing the point of writing, drawing, inking, colouring, and printing this fabulous, full-colour, comic-book-thingy.
