Talk:St. Teresa's Eyes

It makes me wonder is one of the group bloggers came up this disease, and if it's one of the things that got them into trouble with the poweres that be.--Spiraltwist 06:15, 7 February 2008 (PST)

page move proposal

I'd really like to move this page to "St. Theresa's Eyes" to match the spelling of Theresa given in the backmatter for DS#05. Of course then link in the current spelling as redirect pages. Anyone disapprove? --Taz 00:43 2008.09.25

A couple of consistency notes related to the above. First time the disease is mentioned it is spelled 'Teresa'. Second mention in the backmatter, about the person not the disease, spells it 'Theresa'. Next mention as St. Theresa's Rapture, again spelled 'Theresa'. wikipedia's entry on the person uses 'Teresa'. inconsistency in the historical record is to be expected; inconsistency in modern-day references also isn't surprising. but i don't think the inconsistency in the comic text is intentional, especially since it's mostly one character referencing the name. anyway, there's some more fuel for the fire. --Taz 13:43, 25 September 2008 (PDT)

i don't think the inconsistency in the comic text is intentional - I don't think that anything in the book is ever an accident because Warren seems to have a very specific plan outlined and I wouldn't put it past him for the spelling to be important. Only time will tell. I'd leave them both in, if possible, with both spellings (or linked to one another).

You've changed your name from Taz to taz, though. And names are important. --Spiraltwist 16:44, 25 September 2008 (PDT)

I've discovered the auto-sign button, where previously i was manually typing 'Taz'. And mediawiki's a little wonky when it comes to where it thinks capitalization is important. hmmm. Did that fix it?

You're right, of course, in that "trust the author" should be the passphrase of the day. But mistakes happen regularly in the publishing world despite the intentions of authors and the plethora of editors. Warren Ellis may be god, but he's not Tolkien. --Taz 19:05, 25 September 2008 (PDT)

I don't consider Tolkien to be the end all, either. ;) And yes, that fixed it. --Spiraltwist 21:43, 25 September 2008 (PDT)

I just realised, despite the assertion I just wrote in there that a proliferation of mask wearers implies a proliferation of St. Teresa's Eyes that the only other mask wearer we've seen has normal blue eyes not the red in red of Celia.

This leaves me with two possibilities: Either people who aren't affected by St. Teresa's Eyes are wearing the Grey Masks, or not everyone suffers the (seemingly) permanent colour change that Celia appears to have. Confusion 07:33, 3 October 2008 (PDT)

Surprised no-one's mentioned the memetic alien virus from Global Frequency yet. Surely those eyes are just a bit too similar? Reinhardt's almost certaintly smart enough to cook a memetic virus up, and the idea of a memetic virus going round a technology-based community isn't that new either; anyone read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson? Once again, nothing specific, but it's something to think about...G_D
