Talk:Sarah Berlin
From doktorsleepless
Not done. Out of time before lab. For the record, I hate the color pink. --Spiraltwist 11:42, 1 October 2008 (PDT)
looks like sarahberlin.net redirects back here at the moment. --Taz 17:40, 1 October 2008 (PDT)
It didn't earlier - completely parked with generic godaddy page. My guess is the site is already set, just not launched yet.
Also, please feel free to add to Sarah (which her last name is Berlin - maybe a title change?). I just meant I didn't have the time to add anything more, not that no one else could mess with it. (Re-reading that later made me think people might read it that way, but that's not what I meant.) --Spiraltwist 20:54, 1 October 2008 (PDT)
pretty sure i read it in the spirit you meant. hopefully others will too. i'd add to it but don't have the new issue yet. :( sounds like there's a touch of doubt as to whether Berlin is actually her name; leaving it here at "Sarah" until confirmation is reasonable. --Taz 21:01, 1 October 2008 (PDT)
So, where were we? Top of book two. Sarah Berlin - Warren Ellis
Straight out of the back matter (which, in typical fashion, I read after I did the post). There are a few other interesting tidbits in the backmatter that need to be read.
Need to rest the eyeballs; I'm getting close to breaking my first rule. --Spiraltwist 21:58, 1 October 2008 (PDT)
full name confirmed. gone ahead and moved it. updated links accordingly. --Taz 01:03, 2 October 2008 (PDT)
Thanks, Taz. --Spiraltwist 16:20, 2 October 2008 (PDT)
The shot of her in the crowd outside the train station has her as the only piece of colour in the otherwise drab blue people around her. Is this significant? Confusion 06:53, 3 October 2008 (PDT)
I think it's just to point out that she really stands out, and she is something shiny and new in the city. --Spiraltwist 20:40, 13 October 2008 (PDT)
Clatter
Does she have it? Sure, we'll probably get an answer soon either way, but:
She seems surprised at the speed with which news of the bombing travels. This is basically counter to her having any experience with Clatter. You'd expect clatter users to not be surprised by the rapid spread of news, it should've worked it's way into society. And news services too, if Twitter is any indication.
She also uses a physical phone, for what I believe is the first time in the entire book. Everyone previously exposed to uses Clatter for any communication, don't they? I realised that someone in the opening pages of #9 has a cellphone in hand, still haven't checked the rest.

even if she has clatter or another IM service, she probably doesn't have any buddies locally that could tell her the news. leaves plenty of room for her surprise at this piece of news. --Taz 09:43, 14 October 2008 (PDT)
A phrase she's used in the story has been bothering me, when she as was talking about her Uncle Tommy, saying "letting the dog see the rabbit" - before he killed himself.
I'd read this before, but couldn't place it.
Found in the same phrase in GRAVEL: STRANGE KILLINGS, the first series. Gravel says it right before he storms into the prison. Interesting that is shows up here. --Spiraltwist 18:27, 16 January 2009 (PST)
