formatting fun.

here's the formatting i used to "match" the old livejournal posting (see http://warren-ellis.livejournal.com/90223.html?page=2 ):

Pic 4:
He gets the goggles over his eyes, and looks at himself.

DOKTOR
JOHN REINHARDT AND ALL THE THINGS HE’S SEEN: HE’S A BIT
TOO REAL. THE THINGS HE WANTS TO DO ARE A BIT TOO OBVIOUS.

DOKTOR
BUT IF YOU COVER HIS EYES, YOU CAN’T SEE THAT HE HASN’T SLEPT FOR A YEAR.

... not the most optimal, i think, but it matches the target formatting. here's another take that's cleaner with smaller browser windows -- try making your browser very thin to see what i mean:

Pic 4:
He gets the goggles over his eyes, and looks at himself.

DOKTOR
JOHN REINHARDT AND ALL THE THINGS HE’S SEEN: HE’S A BIT TOO REAL. THE THINGS HE WANTS TO DO ARE A BIT TOO OBVIOUS.

DOKTOR
BUT IF YOU COVER HIS EYES, YOU CAN’T SEE THAT HE HASN’T SLEPT FOR A YEAR.

... of course, the third option is to do something else entirely. i'm not a fan of the centering; i'd rather bold the character's name and format things like this:

Pic 4:
He gets the goggles over his eyes, and looks at himself.

DOKTOR
JOHN REINHARDT AND ALL THE THINGS HE’S SEEN: HE’S A BIT TOO REAL. THE THINGS HE WANTS TO DO ARE A BIT TOO OBVIOUS.
DOKTOR
BUT IF YOU COVER HIS EYES, YOU CAN’T SEE THAT HE HASN’T SLEPT FOR A YEAR.

... soo.... any opinions?

also, spiral, where'd you get these scripts? i've only found the livejournal posting of page 1 so far. --Taz 02:09, 17 September 2009 (PDT)

Personally I like the third one best, I see what you mean about looking good on a narrow browser window, but the first two just sort of float there with a wider one. On the wiki page (as opposed to livejournal) the thrid on looks best.

As for where, haven't you gotten #13 yet? It's in the backmatter.--Mark 13:22, 18 September 2009 (PDT)

ahh, thank yew, i'm an idjit. i thought backmatter was the source, but my #13 had gotten misfiled so when i checked through the issues i didn't find it. since my TPB is currently out on loan i thought maybe it was there.

the formatting in the backmatter is a bit more like #3, but puts the speaker and dialogue on the same line and heavily indents any line wraps. i could duplicate the formatting in Word but i don't know how to get there in wiki formatting. a table is as close as i can get, and it's not especially pretty (try the "thin browser" test -- ick!!):

Pic 4: He gets the goggles over his eyes, and looks at himself.

DOKTOR JOHN REINHARDT AND ALL THE THINGS HE’S SEEN: HE’S A BIT TOO REAL. THE THINGS HE WANTS TO DO ARE A BIT TOO OBVIOUS.
DOKTOR BUT IF YOU COVER HIS EYES, YOU CAN’T SEE THAT HE HASN’T SLEPT FOR A YEAR.

i'm leaning towards the third one, for cleanliness and simplicity. gonna test it on Page One, see whatcha think. --Taz 06:33, 21 September 2009 (PDT)

Nicely done, Taz! :) --Spiraltwist 19:00, 20 November 2009 (PST)
