Just because I want to have it said SOMEWHERE: Captain Swing acts as one of the villains in The Difference Engine. Is this relevant to the history of the name as it gets incorporated here? --Confusion 21:33, 22 January 2008 (PST)

Might also note that many rural-based secret societies in Ireland utilised the nom-de-guerre 'Captain Rock' in signing their various public bills, posts, and threatening letters. (There was an actual 'Captain Rock' but the identity was used for the entire movement rather than just the individual.) The Rockites carried out locally organised campaigns of arson, agrarian rebellion, and 'terror' in the 1820s, mostly in Munster and Connacht, if memory serves.

Captain Swing #2 was interesting, and raises some more questions. Or Warren's fucking with us and its just a distraction. --Spiraltwist 19:49, 30 June 2010 (PDT)
