Shriekyware

Used almost exclusively by the "Shrieky Girl" subculture, Shriekyware consists of a set of networked receivers and transmitters -- usually two false fingernails or rings, a tongue-ring or false tooth, neckwear and an IM lens (most often a Clatter system). Put together, they form a crude motion-capture unit and haptic interface that allows transmission of simulated touch between wearers.

For example, if one Shrieky Girl is taken by the hand every other Shrieky Girl on the net experiences the same sensation of their hand being held.

Doktor Sleepless claims to have made Shriekyware possible via the purchase of a large number of faulty or outmoded components he subsequently dumped onto the open market before he originally left Heavenside. (#002 pg.15) These components included Haptic-Interface Chips originally "designed for a novelty phone that would transmit a hand-squeeze over a 3G cellular connection"

For the ancestor of Shriekware, see the Hug Shirt from CuteCircuit.

There has been at least one recent feed report of a young man hacking into the Shriekyware system using a transmitter spliced into a penile implant. Several-dozen Shrieky Girls are still in trauma-induced vegetative states in various state-sponsored institutions. {Source link needed for confirmation}
