Secret Speculation
From doktorsleepless
Salvaged from the slowly cooling corpse of the Sekrit Community:
A few questions about the good Doktor's get up. At first glance it looks like a aqua surgeons scrubs top, but upon closer inspection I'm wondering if it isn't more like a aqua butcher's apron. Second, is he wearing a black zip shirt underneath, or is that just a strip of black frill at the top of the aqua shirt?-Dan Ballard
I'm beginning to think he can open himself up and that zipper isn't for show.
The hardest thing about the Halloween edition of DS is trying to get the right kind of goggles and than the proper girl friend willing to dress up as NURSE IGOR.
Without NURSE IGOR I'm afraid it won't be the same. -ShawnJDouglas

- Has anyone actually seen it yet?

- yuh huh! so much goodness in there my fave scene what would have to be of the Shrieky Girls. Picked up my Science Bastard t-shirt yesterday might take some pix later today and upload them.

- I picked mine up yesterday, and here I thought i was getting mine very late. I finished reading it about 3 hours ago, and have just obsessively read all the changes made to the Wiki since I last dared look at it.

- It's shaping up pretty good so far, but it needs more explosions. Patience is a virtue and all, but immanentize of the Eschaton already!
- I really hope Preston Stoker turns out to be a proper ball-breaker, and not some chump who talks a good game, but ultimately spends most of his time pounding his desk in frustration - a bit like that bad-guy at the end of Inspector Gadget cartoons.
- I know it's early days, but Reinhardt needs some adversity, because I'm starting to worry he's just another wanker back from his gap year (the kind of punk Preston Stoker would eat for breakfast). Looking at the blurb for #3, though, it looks like I might not have that long to wait to see what he's made of.

- Brian: seriously, man, about 24 hours have passed in DOKTOR SLEEPLESS so far. This is a very long book, and you're two chapters in. I'm very deliberately using a more novelistic structure. Give it some time.

- Having been brought up on a diet of MTV hyper-editing and microwaved food, this concept of "giving it some time" is quite alien to me. I've heard of it, but I've never tried it before. Oh well, I might as well give it a go.

- Hmmm. That explains what feels "off" about it. It's not the pacing I expect in comics. I was intrigued enough to stick with it anyway, but I'll keep the novelistic structure in mind now.

- Actually... I say novelistic, but it's probably something else. It's not your standard monthly comic book structure, though. It's more discursive and meandering. Stick with it.

- Yeah, I loved the Shrieky Girls bit as well. It's a pleasure to bask in such poetic SF goodness.

- Doctor Sleepless #2 found it's way to me. And I think I want to be a Shrieky Girl now. The concept of them all being able to feel what one does just blows me away. The connection must feel just out of this world. Plus, the technology aspect really draws me in too. Books like this are great, but it makes me a little sad also. Sad, because I'm going to miss out on the next things that are coming up tech wise. Very rarely does an author so easily point this out.
- I've got no problem waiting for the story to develop. Pupae - larvae - moth. It's all good. :)
