Contract Police are private security firms whose services can be engaged by the public for a fee. They fulfill the function of "beat cops" within a Contract Police Zone. Individual officers are colloquially known as "pay-cops".

Contract Police firms are licensed by the Heavenside Police Department and paid by the city to enforce a limited suite of laws. Customers may pay for enforcement of additional laws.

Contract Police will NOT prevent muggings or "dippings" just because they happen to be nearby when the event takes place. (Apparently, assault and battery is not one of the laws that the city pays them to enforce.) Proof of coverage is necessary, and a customer may need to explicitly place a request for services/authorization of payment before a pay-cop will step in.

Contract Police will act as bouncers, keeping unwanted people out of a given area, if paid. Contract Police routinely keep all grinders out of Central Heavenside at the behest of store owners.
