Nine-eleven

On the closing page of Issue06, Doktor Sleepless mentions "...that whole nine-eleven thing," and it can be taken with a high degree of probability as a reference to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States of America by (alleged) terrorists.

Like with many significant paradigm altering occurrences (take the 1963 assassination of JFK mentioned in this same issue, for example), there is controversy surrounding the dominant narrative that is used to explain this event.

Regardless of the ultimate truth of the matter, Sleepless seems to use the reference (in tandem with a Benjamin Franklin quote), to further rationalize his apparent desire to Immanentize the eschaton. It appears in regards to the Contract Police zones in Heavenside, but likely also points to the fact that since the War on Terrorism began, some people believe that we find ourselves living increasingly in a Police State--it seems the Doktor likely holds this belief.
