DOKTOR SLEEPLESS

ISSUE #1

SCRIPT EXCERPT

by WARREN ELLIS

The Doktor: Tall, over six feet, and thin. Black hair in a widow’s peak, like Doc Savage. Big crazy black goggles are a semi-permanent feature on his chiseled, hawk-like face – he used be a manga-style pretty boy, and he’s still only 30, but his twenties have been hard on him. He always wears a long white lab coat with big shoulderpads in it to give him square shoulders and so a more interesting silhouette. Under that, a pale green surgeon’s smock. Tight black trousers, and heavy big stompy boots with metal bits on. Pale green surgical rubber gloves.

The Nurse: Around five-ten in her boots, long and also very slim, with green hair close- cropped in the same widow’s peak. Wearing a latex version of an old-fashioned nurse’s outfit, complete with nurse’s cape, all in green and white. Big stompy boots also, in white.

Sing: Short and curvy, big black hair, usually wears glasses and affects a cyberfuture version of the Fifties fashion: tends to show the skin above her breasts, she has implants under her skin that making it look embossed on to her skin.

CULTURAL MIX: In any given crowd, three out of ten people will be black, two out of ten will be of Chinese/Japanese/Korean extraction, and one will be from India/Pakistan.

GRINDER SYMBOL: Remember the old 666 tattoo from THE OMEN? Like this, roughly: 6 66 Now imagine each of those 6s as a stylised cog or flywheel, and each of them interlocking. That’s the Grinder symbol.

NOTE: unless SPECIFICALLY STATED OTHERWISE, each page is a SIX-PANEL GRID of three rows of two equally sized pictures.
